Butterfly Brush for Kit
I'm still trying to settle on my favorite brushes in my kit. I've decided on two that I LOOVE and can't do without but I have a question. I know what a butterfly brush is but what designs do you typically use it for? I'd love to see some examples, step-by-step, or even better.....is there a video out there showing how to use it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
It's almost like a stamp. You load it with color and press it to the skin to leave a butterfly wing shape. You can use it to make small butterflies for designs or as a stand-alone. I don't use mine mainly because I like to change the shape of my butterflies often. I think there is a tutorial on the Snazaroo.us photo contast pages? Check the step-by-step contests.
Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
Hiya,
I have about 7 designs that I hand cut in the forum shop. I will be adding demos of the shapes as I have the time.
They are super simple to use and add immediate flair to designs. The really help you with lines and make a wonderful design on the little ones who can sit still long.
Or you can make your own with a good fan brush. a super sharp pair of micro-tip scissors and a really steady hand.

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
I use my butterfly brush for small little girls( 3 and under). Like when big sis gets a full face, and little sis seems a little scared I will do one on their arm and or check for free. Makes everyone happy. But only free if the parent has already bought a face. Wish I could come up for one for little boys.....any suggestions on that one?
Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
Well, I'm looking around and can't find the tutorial on Snaz. Probably right in front of me, just can't see it. I'll keep looking. I really want to see this being done.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
I have several of these but can't quite seem to get the hang of it.
I gave up on the butterfly brush and came up with a flat brush butterfly that I really like. It's fast and easy.

Really pretty butterfly Cassandra. I cut some hog hair fan brushes to a butterfly shape ages ago before I saw the light with sables. My daughter said it was 'too jaggy' so I don't use them very often.

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
You pretty much just double load the brush, lay it flat for each wing, then outline in black.
I use them on the tiny kids that I'm not sure will hold still for long and for making butterfly crowns (one in the middle, half next to each eye, then pearls or tear drops for the crown).

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
Couldn't get my homemade one to work so I perfected a one-stroke butterfly similar to Cassandra's and a lot like Suzy Sparkles.

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
nothing special just a small example I knocked up a few weeks ago. I love my butterfly brush it speeds things up I find. But I think it is either somthing you love or hate.
I do as many flatbrush one strokes as I do with this brush. just depends on placement and what person is looking for.

I am LOVING this Cassandra!! This is so beautiful!
Did you use a split cake? (If so) Which one? I am trying to picture how you did this. It looks like you used the edge of a flat brush and pulled down towards the body, for each section but I can't imagine how the pretty colours didn't then blur. Or maybe you used the flat of the brush and just outlined it to look like each section was separately painted.
Not having time to play (grr.. A few more months til I finish this darn course I'm taking and then I'll be able to play with my paints again) ...I'd dearly love to know how you did it. I love the colours almost as much as the shape! I love the colour of the one beside it too.
Nice work. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
here is a quick video I shot on my phone's camera, sorry it's a little weird, I had to try and work around the tripod I had my phone attached to so that I'd have both hands free. It's just a basic butterfly brush tutorial
Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
Yeah I'm curious about your method Cassandra, since you said you use a flat brush not a butterfly brush.
I have a few different butterfly brushes, but only one that I really like. I just got a new one I had great hopes for but I find the bristles split apart too much, I don't get a solid wing. Doesn't matter how much paint I load on it or how wet it is.

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
I have a couple of them, but i don't use them anymore..i just make quick one stroke butterflies with a flat brush now..
Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
I can NEVER get my butterfly brush to do anything for me. When I load it with paint, the bristles just separate unless I use like an insane amount of paint, then it's all crazy wet and can never dry for me to do detail work. Am I doing something wrong?
Butterfly Brush for kit
I bought a butterfly brush but wasn't very happy with the way it looked. I have been practising with one strokes and came up with this butterfly design. Its basically just two petal shapes joined together and then a kind of "S" shape down. Then I outlined it in black and added the teardrops and dots. Its very quick, by the way the one stroke is TAG's new petal pearl, it's just gorgeous!

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
That's really beautiful, Kim!! I got the petal split recently too and it is my new favourite, it's so pretty!
I do find the butterfly brush is the best for very small girls because it is practically a stamp and it's so fast that I can get it done before they start moving around too much. I don't outline them because of the wiggle factor - I just do a quick teardrop body and antennas then dots if they'll let me. The outlining - which is what makes yours so beautiful, Kim - is what I am trying to avoid by using the butterfly brush.
Here's some that I did with my one good butterfly brush. I have the same problem as you Melody, except with this one brush. It's quite a bit smaller than most, I think that is why for me the bristles stay together with this one. But the reason it is smaller is because I kept trimming and trimming because I kept messing up the shape of it!!
I did outline these ones a little bit with neon magenta but usually I don't. This is from several months ago so don't judge me by this pic, I have improved my teardrops, swirls and dots a LOT since then!!

Where can we find the TAG Petal pearl? I don't see it on any website that I usually order from...
Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit

Re: Butterfly Brush for Kit
I have 3 butterfly brushes that I cut myself into different shapes and I use them often. I have 2 that are sable and one that is synthetic. Ithink it has alot to do with the quality of the brush as to how well the butterflies actually come out. Prior to having my cut butterfly brushes I did use a flat brush to do them. I like having the varied shapes.
