Practicing Monsters Empty Practicing Monsters

Post by Lynnie Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:22 am

I'm not a monster person. I'm not a blood-gore person. I decided I wanted to try the whole ripping out of the skin thing and had two designs in mind for it.

I was watching an alien movie and painting my leg, so this was born...
Practicing Monsters Alien-10

And this was on my hub at a fest as a demo. I told him I was letting his inner beast come out. My friends told him it was a blue butterfly. lol (btw- the horns are the Wolfe white, that didn't crack on him. Hermph)

Practicing Monsters Marks-10

It was my first try at both so please let me know what you think! Smile

Love 'em Lynnie!!
I was thinking about this this arvo after listening to the radio. I'm trying to con my dh into sitting still to be painted, I want to unleash his inner monster to enter a radio comp for lady gaga tix....but by the time he gets home from work and showers, he doesn't want to have another shower before bed (and he's not a gaga fan either, so NOT a selling point for him!)lol!

Lynnie way to go! Love the depth you achieved on the first one. Did you put another color around the outer skin to make it look folded back or just a shadow with black. Great horns on second one too really like the center one great very dimensional.

I love them! Great job! I love the hands and blood in the first one, and that mask looks fantastic. I'm not really into gore either, but at my first event I had a couple of boys ask for gory things and one ask for a zombie face that totally stumped me. I've got to figure that out soon!

Practicing Monsters Empty Re: Practicing Monsters

Post by Lynnie Tue Jun 21, 2011 11:49 am

Wow! Thanks all. I was expecting some constructive critiques! lol Thank you so much.

Laura, I did use another color to create the skin folding back around the alien. I use Paradise so it was the more peachy color in their orange range (don't remember the name). I then used a dry black to shade "under" it and used a barely wet red over the top for the effect.

I admit that I'm really happy with how the blood on the alien turned out. Now if only I can remember how I did it. I should have taken notes. Wink

Kris, would he do it before he showers? Just wash his face off, paint it and then let him shower maybe? Tell him you need the practice? lol I'm so lucky. My hub likes to be painted.

I forgot to say that I did feel bad about the beastie on my hub. A little girl showed up at the end of the event (it was a private festival). She was 3 and so adorable and just kept staring at hub, then would hide her face in her mom's arm. I told her he's really nice and he was even smiling and waving but no dice. I asked her if she wanted me to take him and leave so that he wouldn't be there anymore and she so timidly said "Yeeeees." Poor honey! Now I know to not paint him like this for a major festival!

Thanks again everyone, so much! You are all too kind!

I really liked the first one. The depth is awesome and it's so creepy (in a good way!).

I also liked your monster. Love the shading and the horns, epecially the top two right ones. I'm still working on my horns so it's been saved in my inspiration folder Smile. Nice work!

AMAZING work! Well Done

The Paradise colour may have been "Coral" - I use it for the skin tone in my Daizy inspired fairies.

You're lucky - my husband won't let me paint his face and my 5yo daughter is 'over it' also . . . my arm and legs get a good amount of paint on them as a result! Laughing
