I got stumped by a cross
This weekend I was painting at a church for pentacost and I got stumped by a kid asking for a Cross on her cheek and the christian fish on the other side...I could not think of any way to fancy it up;) My brain just stopped! Does anyone have any ideas:) It would be totally appreciated;)

Re: I got stumped by a cross
I sometimes paint crosses over a background, like a rainbow cake with black or white cross on top. You can elaborate on the ends of the cross as well, making them pointy like a tribal design, or swirly and girlie. Try googling "cross" and clicking images to see design options.

Thanks Angie! I will try it.

Re: I got stumped by a cross
Maybe put ivy growing up weaving around it with flowers blooming - showing 'rebirth' with would work with Christianity... (especially if they were lilies or other white flowers)
Or do fire as a background (yellow/red) and the cross in silhouette on top - that would be good for Pentecost or any Pentecostal type churches as it'd represent what they call the fire of the Holy Spirit.
You could also do a dove hovering over the cross (also representing the holy spirit) or in the middle, where the two bits intersect. (Or put a heart with glitter in the middle of the cross, or the sign of the fish, or flames etc.)

Re: I got stumped by a cross
it looks good, in the fish you can do a backgorund with rainbow cake depending if is for a girl or a boy, the fire is a good option for boys, for girls if buterflys around works good too i will send you a pic with the chiristian fish with a croos inside so you can take a look
Re: I got stumped by a cross
For Christians the fish was a communication symbol. All through history being a Christian has been sticky business so when strangers met, one side of the fish would be drawn and if the other person was also christian they would draw the other side overlapping the first thus making the image of a fish. I love your fish, but this particular fish is very specific.
One way of jazzing up your cross and fish would be to attempt a celtic knotwork one. Heather Banks did a tute on knotwork and did a trinity design. That would also be a nice alternative esp. with Catholics!

Re: I got stumped by a cross
I always put a blend of pink, orange and yellow so it looks like a sunrise in the background, then the cross on a little hill in black so it looks like a silhouette and lines like it's shining.

here is a cross I did when I was practicing tribal things -found on goolge images -sorry it is blurry

Hi Mel,
in Germany the catholic christians celebrate the First Communion.
As decoration for the table I have made a candle with a selfmade wax-cross. If you go on "google.de" and type "Kommunionkerzen Motive" you became many picture, so I think it is maybe an inspiration for you.
I hope my english is not so bad and you understand what I mean.

Re: I got stumped by a cross
Thanks everyone! I love the idea of the sunrise in back of the cross...with maybe the christian fish maybe in the middle of the cross somehow. I really like the tribal looking cross as well. The ivy would be kind of cool to put around it...I don't know why something so simple can be so hard;) I will keep playing around with it and post what I come up with;)
Thanks!!!
