Which one? Empty Which one?

Post by Rae Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:13 pm

I'd really like to go and register my business name this week.

Problem is, I can't decide on which name to go with;

1. Rae's FX

or

2. Rae's Face Painting FX

Not alot of difference I know, but I like the shortness of the first one, and on business cards etc I could have Face Painting placed under the actual name, or not, images of painted faces pretty much tells the story. I could also add (maybe) other things down the track to the business if it's just Rae's FX. The second one at least covers what I do.

Aaahhh I can't decide!!! Or are they both ordinary and I should go back to the drawing board? scratch

I would really value any opinions/advice/suggestions you can throw my way.

Thanks Very Happy
Rae

That's a hard one. Maybe if you went with Rae's Fx and listed under what that offers. A couple years ago, before I face painted, I am not sure I would of known that included face paint, probably would of thought theatrical.

Hi Rae, great you are setting your business.
I don't know if you will stick to facepainting. I've heard some people with facepainting in their name who are extending to bodypainting and bellypainting and find their name inappropriate now. If you also want to do bellypainting or bodypainting the first one is better. You can also explain what you do under your name with pictures and text.

Its true. This is a hard business to try and nail down. If you say face painting, everyone thinks of kid stuff. If you say body painting, everyone thinks of painting clothes on naked models.

I've been trying to come up with a business name for myself as a non-clown, and thus far have not found anything that bridges the in-between.

Having said that, I like Rae's FX as well. You can always put "Face art - belly art - body art" in small print as a tag line. (or something like that) If you put face painting FX in the business name then you'll likely get pigeonholed as a kids entertainer.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Most body artists I know have kid parties as their meat and potatoes and just do other stuff when they can. Might have to be honest with yourself and ask where you plan on making your money.

Rae's face FX?

I know that wasn't an option - just throwing it out there Smile

Why not register both? That way you can use either as needed.

How about Rae's Face & Body ART FX... it covers everything & will help people know what you do. Rae's FX could be computer stuff, etc...

Thanks so much for responding ladies. Your opions mean a great deal to me, and really help me to move forward with a bit more confidence.

I think I'm going to go ahead with Rae's Fx as my actual name. Then have a tag line under that with facepainting or face and body art or whatever I'm selling at the time. That part can always change.

Thanks again. You're the best!!
