I was a lurker
But seeing how caring most everyone here is made it impossible for me to keep lurking. What a wonderful community of support, education and encouragement! I feel so blessed to be here.
I'm a face painting newbie...got hooked when my little girl and I got painted at Disney in February. It was so exciting and we both felt so special and giddy. I knew I had to get more of that, lol. We went back to Disney the next day where I watched the face painter do a unicorn on my dd and asked a few questions. Found out the painters there only get 2 weeks training but he was a canvas artist in another country previously. I asked where to find the best paints and learned about SillyFarm. I indulged in a small Kyrolan palette, an arty cake, a rainbow cake, a brush and sponge, and baked cookies for the UPS lady every day until my package arrived.
I have always loved art, loved color, love creating....but I've never found anything that felt quite right to me or that held my interest enough for me to really persevere. Face painting is different, wonderfully different! I adore the paints and all the products, look forward to practicing and trying new things, and find so much joy in every aspect of doing this. I especially treasure the connection and conversation with a child when I am painting them. Children are so open, honest, and emotionally present.
This was such an unexpected fresh breeze of fun and creativity in my life, to discover face painting! I am so glad to be here and grateful for this community. I know you are just meeting me but I have already learned so much from many of you. Thank you for sharing your photos, experiences, wisdom and talent!

Thanks so much for the warm welcomes, everyone!
I costs $12-15 at WDW in Florida for full face painting. The chairs are padded like a dentists chair and mostly recline so you are nearly laying down. They use Kyrolan solids and even before I knew about fp hygiene, I could see it was rather unsanitary. I asked how they clean brushes and sponges between clients (they paint all the girls lips w/brushes, too, then apply glitter) and they just swish them in the dirty water pot. They didn't look very happy....it felt kind of like the Supercuts of the glamour & beauty industry, if you know what I mean. Low totem pole with not much, if any, room for creativity or fun. Just like at Supercuts, I bet there were some very talented artists stuck there simply because of circumstances. Most of the WDW artists seemed to be brought in from other countries...a ticket out, perhaps.
Now that I know better, I hardly let anyone paint my dc's faces after a quick inspection of their hygiene practices. I would definitely not do WDW fp again! Besides, for that $$ I could get a new big fat rainbow cake!
I have been browsing the store here and plan to try some TAG paints for sure! I wonder if it will ever be less addicting to collect pretty new paints - hope not!

Re: I was a lurker
Hi Sparkleyone
It is fun, isn't it??
I started out face painting at Disney, and it is a good start. I was a new widow and needed a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
Hope you continue to have fun doing this and your dear little girl can be your practice model.
Blessings to you
Evelyn
