I wish I could stop buying stuff!!! HELP..I am getting there though..just one decent gazebo to go..Now someone said something about the importance of the colour choice...Is white the best option as I love the idea of green or black....sorry to get off topic...well done for getting in the black..great way to keep the hubbies happy!! We are heading into winter and it's starting to slow down..I need to crack into the birthday party scene..another expense..advertising!

Way to go! cheers I have an old school accounting book with 2 columns one for in and one for out and when I'm tempted by new stuff I just look at it and remind myself I don't need it.. its all about needs and greeds. It meant I spent ages with tiny pallet snazaroo paints I was given and am only just starting to diversify as it runs out but it also means that I've been adding a few hundred a week to our income which is not bad for a full time mum! Hubby's don't complain when they see wads of cash being made from painting pretty pictures Very Happy I'll probably have to fork out for advertising for winter too but if it is well placed it should be worth it.

my dad is my accountant and he was really amazed that even after adding in deductions for our mortgage interest and utility stuff that can be deducted with a home business, I still showed a profit this year! It means I didn't get anything back on my taxes, but oh well... I wasn't paying anything into income taxes so I guess I can't complain Wink

Yay, congrats!!

@ Freedspirit - White would be best for a gazebo. Black might work too but would be hot and possibly dark inside. Other colors will interfere with your paint colors. I can't be certain but I think the EZ-Up tents are blue on the outside and silver/grey on the inside, which would probably be fine too.

Hooray for YOU!!! That is great. I am with you all about trying not to buy the new stuff all the time. Recently I worked it out with my husband that tip money goes towards product. I have a little jar full of $1 bills, and it is so nice to not feel guilty looking at things to buy- it is fun to tell kids when they ask what "all that money is for?" that "It buys more paint!"

Another genius idea! Tips=toys. What a great way to ration the spending. I think I will start doing that too.

I second that wonderment? Why don't you charge? Have you ever heard of a book called The Artists Way?? it is a great book with a 12 week practical section and in it there is a chapter on money and art.. it is ok to put a monetary value on wonderful art and people are ok paying it too. In fact they seem to place a higher value on services paid for than those given free...

It's an accounting thing - negative numbers are shown in red, so a profit is "in the black".
