Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I wonder if they let you bring paints in a carry-on.
Have a fantabulous time!

Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
It is paint and you know how picky the are with stuff like that. I hope someone has an answer.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
Yes carry on is the only way to go. But even if you do put them in your carry on, still protect them way more than you would on the way to a gig. I feel like I lose a couple cakes every time I travel even if they are in my carry on. All I can say is protect, protect, protect! And have your business cards in case they ask you any questions at security. I was also considering having print outs about the products with me the next time I travel just in case. I would die if some security guard threw out my paints! But for the most part they just pass a special swab over them now that tells them if they are hazardous. It doesn't even touch the cake, they just wave it above the air of the cake.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I travel to the UK, US, and Europe to and from Canada. I only have carry-on bags and my face paints have never been a problem... take dry cakes, make sure everything is in the original container. Follow the rules regarding liquids and gels and you should be okay.
But... it is up to the individual security people to decide if your brush is a weapon...

Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
Has anyone had any experience travelling with paints in Aus? I'm almost scared to try in case they take them off me!
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
Yes I did a bunch of flights each year we lived in HK.
Uk/ Hk/ NZ/ Oz/ USA...they don't mind cake paints in carry on but do take business cards/ mags books to sort of show what you are, they got really sceptical in London & USA about the stacking Wolfe/ TAG/ DFX paints. Not usually a prob with my paradise paint cases.
They will not let you have brushes; myself and another bunch had them confiscated. Sems mad as am pretty sure the stubby fat handled brushes I prefer could do far less damage than pens & biros, which are allowed!
All powders/liquids/ gels I zip-loc bag then double bag as have had a few exlode in my checked in suitcase in the past!

Oooo Ruth, I'm so glad you asked about this one. I'm also taking off across the country soon and was planning on taking my paints. Bit worried about Cat's comments now. I might phone the airline and see what they have to say.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
Thanks Cat, you hve definitely set my mind at rest, I'm more than happy to pack my brushes in luggage but didn't want my paints to get "roughed up". I was just worried as I know that paint is normally a no-no. Love the double and triple loc bag idea too!! Thanks heaps
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??

Seems that packing your brushes, glitter, etc in your checked luggage would be the way to avoid trouble. Anything not easily perishable if I am hearing you correctly.

Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
When I travel I like to just carry a small amount of paint, a few brushes & a few sponges. I'll take a small wolfe/dfx pallet & a Paradise Pallet. This is usually enough.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I generally take my Kryolan 24-colour metal paintbox and stick a few brushes in it. I've never had a problem - although once I was asked to take it out and open it as they couldn't see inside it on the machine.
And my backpack is routinely swabbed...
I don't check bags at all - I only travel with a rolling backpack so I have to carry everything. I just travel light.
Remember too, if you take business cards to prove these are your tools of trade that it can bite you in the butt at customs!!! They will either want to see a work visa if you are entering a country (I almost got deported from the UK... I was jet-lagged and said I was there to teach at a convention and the customs official was in a bad mood... wanted to see my work visa... I managed to explain it somehow but it was scary) OR if you are returning home they'll want you to pay duty as you can't bring stuff in on your personal excemptions for business purposes!

I take my paints to Indonesia with me. But I just pack them well in my luggage.I just take 2 small pallets small black and white, some glitter, a few sponges,a few brushes and a small s/steel bowl for water.Pack it in a toiletries bag and put it in the middle of my bag. Hasn't got damaged yet.

Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
OOOoooo! Good to know about the brushes! I've had no issues, but I loath the idea of crabby customs jerks! I'll put those into the checked bags from now on!!!
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I've taken my paints in my check luggage, and nothing happened to them, but i pack them like the most precious piece of glass. ^_^ I'm going on vacation in 2 days so this thread helps.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
Good heavens, don't bother to explain face & body painting to govmt people who know nothing about it - just say you are an artist and have watercolors - truth in its simplest form that they are capable of understanding.

Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I always bring it on the plane. Never had a problem.. they did a test on my paints once, took about 10 minutes... they laughed when I told them what they were and wanted to see pics on my cell phone and stuff.. no biggie.
Re: Traveling with fp supplies??
I've brought all sorts of acrylic paints in smaller containers with brushes without problems, although that was only in the US so maybe international would be worse. Good luck!
