Shannon Fennell wrote:Also useful "Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtels, Leonardo leads, Donetello does machine, Rafael is rude and Michaelangelo is a party dude..." impresses the h*ll out've the kids that I know the words AND can match the colours of mask to the CORRECT Turtle!
Leo = blue (I remember because Leo leads, therefore is first, thus blue!)
Raph = red ( R = red)
Mike = Mike is the most popular one and he's yellow
Don = purple is the colour left so it is Don's
Michaelangelo is Orange shannon!!
And as far as talking goes, I keep them from asking me "can I see now? are you done" by telling them what I'm doing.
"NOW i'm going to do all of the lines" "Now I'm going to do the pretty pink parts' etc.

I'm a late 80's early 90's kiddo. My brother used to wear his Mike costume to church because we couldn't get him to take it off. lol!!
From wikipedia - Michelangelo (Mike or Mikey) — Easy-going and free-spirited, Michelangelo wears an orange mask and wields a pair of nunchaku. Michelangelo provides much of the comic relief. While he loves to relax, this Turtle also has an adventurous and creative side. He's something of the "surfer" boy, speaking usually in a Southern California accent. He is the youngest of the four. He is named after the Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer Michelangelo Buonarroti. His name was originally misspelled "Michaelangelo" by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.[7]

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
I own a set of 22" plush TMNT AND the 11" posable plastic - all in perfect condition with all weaponry... Inherited from my brother. And I have my own (not inherited) TMNT lunchbox.
We sold his Transformer collection a couple of years ago - he'd been collecting them BEFORE Transformers hit North America (his first ones were in Japanese packaging that he bought at an Asian import store in Vancouver) so we had G1 through to Armada... only were missing about 2 of them. Comics, clothing, bedding, ornaments, fast food toys, etc. etc. He had a room in the basement lined with shelves just for his collection. Took a U-haul to take it all away. A guy drove up from Leduc in the U-haul with a cashier's cheque. His wife came with him... she wasn't quite as thrilled as he was... (or as we were with the cheque!)
He ate, breathed and dreamed Transformers ... he died in 2006 so missed the live action movies... mom and I went to the theater to see it - we cried as he would have loved it.

I always thought Mike's mask was deep yellow too. I really need to get some of these on my hero menu board.
Shannon, your brother definitely would have flipped out over the transformer movie. It's awesome that you and your mom went to see it in his honor.

Other than vaguely being familiar with the term TMNT, I know nothing about them... Does anyone have an example of a decent TMNT face paint -- I did a google search and the only one I could find is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/veronica84/2468013497/
but I'm sure there is a better standard...
Or can you please describe how to approach this design?
TIA

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
Not my best but I don't get requests for TMNT ... this pic is from almost 7 years ago. The paint had come off his mouth by the time we took the pic and on the side of the orange face mask there is a knot/tie.
Re: Talking to Your Paintee
Couldn't resist the challenge so I just did one quickly now! It's the purple guy...should have picked a darker purple tho!!
Re: Talking to Your Paintee
Awesome!!!!! I like the lighter color fine. I really love the mouth, so cool!
How in the world do you paint with your eyes closed KIm? Are you sure you are from another planet? hmmmm, that would explain your talent

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
LOL Thanks Maggie! Actually the eyes were the hardest part because I do my art with glasses on so the 'on my own face' challenges are actually quite the challenge! When I close my left eye, it's not so bad, but my right eye I feel like I'm painting in a fog!!!
PLUS I have old lady wrinkly eyes....not great when trying to paint it with a brush!!!
Glad I did it but I already see the errors and can do a better one next time. At the corners of the mask on the bottom, the line should go down, not up. Mouth should be a tad lower and the bottom chin line wider. My top lip is a bit pointy so I should have either moved the mouth line way down or at least tried to disguise my lip better.

"What colours would you like? Same as the photo or to match your beautiful dress?"
"Purple [sigh] okay, another beautiful purple butterfly, what? Oh, sure I'll do it exactly the same as your four friends just had, but different, okay?
"Okay, you have to SIT STILL if you want me to paint you"
"Honey, please close your eyes.... no don't scrunch them, softly like this (demonstrate how)... okay that's good"
"NO don't rub your eyes!"
"Ouch, that hurt me, stop kicking me or I'll stop painting"
"If you don't SIT STILL Spiderman will look like dryer lint instead of a spider web"
"No!" (physically remove the child's hand from my cake of black snaz) "do NOT touch my face paints"
"Please do NOT touch my stuff... I don't come to your house and play with your toys do I?"
"ATTENTION (directed to everyone in the queue) please keep back from my chair and table by at least two feet. I can't paint well when my arm and table are being bumped."
"Honey, quit leaning on the chair you are making it wiggle while I am painting your little sister"
"Buddy, please give me back my mirror - go look in the one over there."
This is great. You kill me Shannon. Ans so true.
"NEXT!"

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
I also wear glasses and it is a pain when painting yourself.
I can't imagine how hard was for you to paint with one eye closed at a time but Oh boy, I would have love to see you while you were painting tee-hee
I really don't see all those things you want to fix but I am not very familiar with the TMNT's lol . To me it looks great!

Me either, but I just looked at the pic Michelle posted of the TMNT and went off of that but upon further inspection of the purple guy....I could see my errors....BUT if corrected the next time (if there is a next time) I know what to do. I think this one I did would really only be good for a 10 year old and up boy or a younger one that I could already tell was a bit less wiggly- otherwise, skip the eyes part and just let him have his own eyes ringed in white or maybe just bare with a surrounding mask.
Not sure if I like it enough to add to my portfolio or not.......... may just be a 'secret' for my pals here!! LOL

Kim -- those are fantastic!
I'm amazed (but not surprised) at how you just pulled that "out of the hat" ! There is no denying natural talent

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
Great TMNT designs! And I am totally LMAO on the yellow/orange discussion, because my hubby and I have this argument over the color between green and red on a stoplight. =)

Re: Talking to Your Paintee
I usually ask the boys if they are married already. That usually gets a big eyed look and a blech!
Always the usual what they want to be, what color, do they want glitter, lipstick.
Sometimes I ask the boys if they want glitter too or I tell them that truly it isn't glitter at all, it's dragon scales.
If a girl says they want a pink whatever, I will say I never could have guessed that would be their favorite color. Parents always laugh about that one.
I like to be chatty with the kids, it helps them relax and I think it makes parents relax also. They like that their kid is getting personal attention.
