Got Powder, now what? Empty Got Powder, now what?

Post by CABBYJ Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:43 pm

Like most I needed to restock after an eventful halloween weekend. I decided to add a few of the snaz powders to my kit. My question is what are these used for and how do you use them? I haven't received them yet so I haven't toyed around with them just wondering what type of wonderful things I can create or did I just waste money?

I've never used snaz powders, but I love Ben Nye Lumiere & Starblends. Did you get any smoothies(they look like a big eyeshadow brush)? That's what is generally used to put the powders on.
I use powders for bases, just like I would with paint.

I have just recently got the Ben Nye Lumiere, thinking I could just use a a pretty shimmery base for some adult designs as well as some quick little kid designs. So far I have found them to be just messy and really hard to see.... is there something I am missing or are powders just not that great?

I have never used snaz powders either, but I use metallic/gem powders and lumiere quite a bit as well. It's not always vivid as paints but in conjunction with paints, I like the effects.

Powders can be as bold as paints, but it takes more work. I still like them in my working kit for super hot humid days when paint just melts off as you're putting it on. I also like to use them on kids that may not work well with the feel of wet paint.

Got Powder, now what? Empty Using Lumieres in Designs

Post by Denise Cold Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:10 pm

I love the Lumieres and just did a Youtube video using them. Here's some more pictures with them as a base. I love that it's subtle and highlights the design instead of competing with the design. And I LOVE that they are comfortable and don't crease. I've been able to wear the blossom design all day today and forget I have it on.

More subtle, like makeup, just a little under the design:

Never used the Snaz, but I love my Starblends. Let me see if I can find some pics for you Smile

These were done using red, black, or white. Most of these are first trials. My designs have improved some. The hello kitty bow is now painted on and I don't outline the nose now. Also, the santa is more fluffy tongue

Thanks for posting those CottonCandy...I think I'll have to get those before the fair season starts. I'm a little worried about breakage. Have you had any trouble with your cakes falling apart?

No, I have never had even a chunk brake out. I put in my FatMax which is known to fall over in the back of my van all the time. Rolling Eyes I forget to angle it so it doesn't tilt. The Starblends are loose in the top part with a few of my other odd colors so no real protection. They get abused often tongue

I've had two Starblends break apart. One arrived that way in shipping and the other just happened recently. I was able to press the broken pieces down with my fingers and re-form them into a solid cake again.

I use black starblends for shading and powders for bases.

What are you applying it with? A smoothie blender is the best way.

some skins don't take the powders as well as others, must be the oils in the skin. The designs still work once you do your line work. it's just not as bold Wink
