Haunted Houses Empty Haunted Houses

Post by Mandi from Tazzie Sat Oct 16, 2010 9:10 pm

Hi everyone,

Would those of you who are lucky enough to live in the US & are able to celebrate halloween to it's fullest please tell me about the haunted houses that I've heard some of you saying that you have got work at for this halloween. Are these just regular houses just decorated up for halloween or are they places of business that promote themselves as haunted all year round? I've never been to the US so I really have no idea. I remember Brian & Nick Wolfe saying they work at a haunted house too. Also if it's not too much to ask does anyone have any pics please. Shocked

Haunted Houses Empty Re: Haunted Houses

Haunted houses in Canada are typically outdoors and banquet halls. Most of the amuzement parks totally transform the parks for Halloween. Some people actually decorate their houses on the outside. They look amazing. We walk the neighbourhood and look for houses that are decorated. I will try and get some pics for you.
The typical haunted houses in banquet halls or outside are transformed into a haunted nightmare for Halloween only. They hire people to dress up as creepy clowns, Horror movie characters and zombies. They hide in and around the areas. They jump out with pretend chainsaws, bloody knives, hatchets etc. and scare the heck outta you. Some places really do an amazing job. Those places will charge an entry fee or donation.
If and when we go this year, I will take pictures and send them to you. Maybe even try to get some videos.

The one I am working at is set-up in an auditorium in a park pavilion. They build walls, etc. decorate, and create a "path" that the paying customers walk through and monsters and creatures populate the place scaring them. Lots of special lighting, scary music, howling, etc.

It is done every year and is a HUGE event. It is only held the one Saturday before Halloween as part of a citywide Halloween event. The Downown Association sponsors a Halloween walk, the kids walk through downtown starting at the Co-op and go trick or treating in their costumes to all the merchants, the walk ends at the Park where the haunted house is, as well as all sorts of family activities.

I did sfx make-up for the haunters last year (as a favour for my friend who was organizing it.) This year the park has hired me (full rate.)

I won't be painting in public so no, I won't be painting myself. I will do the cast, the staff, then head home to appointments for the rest of the day - have a latex body painting booked as well as the usual faces, etc. for the clubbers.

Around Halloween a warehouse or closed storefront will be rented out & converted into a maze like set of rooms. They then hire actors & dress them like scary characters from movies or books. The haunted house I'm working at actually has 3 different attractions & is the brain child of a 16 yr old(he's going to have a great college fund). His parents told him if he did the leg work they'd fron the money. It's been going for 2 yrs & rund the entire month of October Thurs-Fri till the 31st.

Here's the link to my favorite haunt . This is a local amusement park that really does it up right. 3 Haunted houses and a small kids section. All around the park there are characters walking around scaring the life out of people. They also run an Oktoberfest section in the park with live entertainment on their stage including an Ozzy Osburne look-a-like emcee and a Prince impersonator who is fantastic.

My cousin is doing a Haunted Trail for the next 2 weekends and I will be painting there on Friday nights (already booked on Sat/Sun at the corn maze). She's put in a zip line and will have horseback riding, arts and crafts, face painting, food, bonfire, etc. as well as the hay ride through the haunted woods. Can't wait to see how it goes! This is her first year doing it.
