Eye Shadow For Shading Empty Eye Shadow For Shading

Post by MsJessicaLynn Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:22 am

Thursday on Project Runway, the challenge was to design based on Loreal Eye Shadow, which gave me the idea to try using it as face paint. For shading and base. I fugured it would be less expensive that Ben Nye Lumiere (which I love). Has anyone ever tried using any kind of eye shadow for this purpose?

I have and use the Lumiere regularly. That said, the dollar is a decent source... about 60% of what I tried from there was useless. But the other 40% was great. The problem is that that I like uniformity in my kit - for my own sanity and because it looks more professional (IMO) and the dollar store stuff comes in all types of containers, some of which are useless. Also, I worry a little about uniformity in my PRODUCTS, too. If someone has an allergic reaction, I want to be able to easily determine which of my products it was.

But, I have a black mica from the dollar store that I adore, some golds and pinks, and of course the $1 foam tipped dotters (similar to $6 Snaz dotter wands).

Yep. It's good stuff. Ashley did a vid and used eyeshadow. Was fantastic.

I found this pic from a few Halloweens ago. I based it off of a Nick Herrera design, I think, but I used black shadow to shade (and for eyeshadow) and blush on top of the orange snaz paint.

I've used them and the coverage for me has never been as good as the professional ones, but they work for light shading. I just don't like the amount of time that they take to apply to the skin.

I use the lumiere for soft colours, like princess blush and a brown eyeshadow for shadow under spiders and so. It is easier than using wateractivated colours.
This butterfly is made from MAC pigments and Lumiere, plus DFX black.

You can use eyeshadow pigments, but often when they have enough pigments, they cost more than facepaint.

I've always used eyeshadows... many years ago before my kit became a living thing, I used normal make-up for my Halloween and other designs. They are pressed powders JUST LIKE the Ben Nye Lumiere and any other brands sold for face painting.

I went ahead and bought some CoverGirl, they have great colors. I used it to do eye designs on my daughter and it worked wonderfully, but I'm afraid it will look unprofessional if I use it at festivals.

I don't think I'd use too much of it. As a mother, if I saw a professional face painter using a lot of regular cosmetics, I'd probably think that I can do the same thing for free at home. Would there be a way to take the obvious label off the container?
