My first "real" gig - I need ideas! Empty My first "real" gig - I need ideas!

Post by Sunrise Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:20 am

I just booked my first birthday party that wasn't put on by a personal friend! I am so thrilled. It's this Saturday, a little girl's 5th birthday, and the theme is "Fancy Nancy", which I've never heard of but now will have to go research. The mom was all fired up about cute girly things and painted-on jewelry.

I need ideas. I don't have daughters to practice on, so I don't have as much practice with crowns and jewelry and general girly stuff as I would like. I'm going to run out today or tomorrow and buy some stick-on gems, but meanwhile, I'd love some suggestions, please oh please. This party is in a posh swanky neighborhood and should be a great opportunity to pass out cards to other parents, so I am anxious to make a really tremendous impression.

Fancy Nancy is a little girl who likes to dress up in really frilly, sparkly, girly (often outlandishly so) outfits.
Lots of flowers, butterflies, beads, and sparkles.

Flowers and butterflies I can do. I need to practice doing beads and crowns. I'm so stoked. This is exactly the type of stuff I LOVE to do. I get so tired of doing tigers and spiderman masks on my son. geek

Yay glitter!

Am I the only one who is attracted to FP partially because it gives us an excuse to wear glitter? Embarassed Because I have a serious glitter problem! Razz

You can do an easy crown with ANY little design in the middle (butterfly, flowers, heart, star, fairy, whatever..) then a series of teardrops or circles bigger in the middle to smaller at the edges.... add a little matching design at the corners of their eyes and lots of glitter. Very Happy

You can use the two posted pics and alter them to what you would need. Tor example the center portion of the necklace cane be flipped up side down to form a crown piece. And if you are not good with painting gems you can use the stick on gems. Pretty much the same with the bracelet, use the center portion for a tear drop sort of head piece with a series of swirls and curl heading out towards the tamples.

Hope this can help you out.

I love doing girly parties. Here's some pics. I think my daughter painted the crown. Some of these are pretty old, so excuse the linework:-) Just look at the ideas.

This was just a quickie design I did a while back and its still a popular one on my menu! Sometimes I ask the girls if they want a different colored flower to match the gem since I ran out of the purple gems kinda quick. Razz

Oh, that's lovely Debi - so nice and simple, great inspiration, thanks!

And psalmbook - that crown at the top is the kind of thing I'm trying to figure out. The ones I try on myself never look good! I think I get too complicated. Those are all great pics. Thanks for the help!

Ok, so I spent my kids' naptime today coming up with designs for this party. Here's what I came up with (all on me - hopefully I'll be able to get pics of these on some little girls tomorrow!). What do y'all think?

Oh Wow! Yummy, yummy - all of them! And, I adore your unicorn. As you can see, I'm trying to get a unicorn design perfected - I'm still in the process of improving and changing the design, as it's borrowed.

Yours looks like a combination unicorn and pegasus.

Thanks! The unicorn was something I fudged around a while on, which is why the mane looks muddy. I've been trying to come up with a winged horse design where the wings make an eye mask - like the mask you always see with the birds and stuff - because I haven't yet seen one that really did that effectively. I'm still not sure I achieved what I want out of it, but I am picky. Razz Anyway...these were fun. Can't wait for the party.
