Hey Everyone,

Pressed powders??? Empty Re: Pressed powders???

Post by Perry Noia Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:03 pm

I went to a workshop where I saw Marcela Murad using them.. she loves them and uses them a lot I guess.

From what I saw, they are not as bright as paints... she showed a "super quick" spider man design using powders for the red and white. The face was pink, not red and if I had a parent who paid for face painting and I just put what is essentially blush all over the kid, I'd be hanged I'm sure. But that's just my personal opinion. I know a lot of people like them.

I was thinking of using them for a quick base around the eyes for a pretty mask or something like that, I would use my regular paints for something like a spider man. But that does make sence about the colors not being as brite, but if i put some nice teardrop work and swirls on there, add some glitter, i dont think it will be that bad. Only one way to find out i guess.

I like using Starblend as a powder base for pretty eye designs and it stays on forever....Are we talking about the same thing only glitter?

I love Starblend pink and purple because I can use them dry as powdery bases that last or wet as paint.

Im hoping that they are starblend powders with glitter, that is how i took it when i ordered them. I got the palette on www.sillyfarm.com, it said it was a kryolan pressed glitter powder palette, colors in palette are: black, yellow, l.green, pink, purple, red, brown, teal, orange and blue. I'm not sure....

What I'm talking about are Starblend by Mehron which are pressed powder cakes that can be applied as powder or activated by water like a paint. I only have plain pink, red and purple, but they come in 50 colors.

If they are the pressed powder cakes like the Mehron Starblend cakes I use, they will not rub off easily and will need to be washed off like paint which is why I like them.

Please let us know when you get them!

This is the only pic I have right now (I'm at my 9-5...shhhh don't tell Wink ) Anyhow, this is my little sister letting me fool around the first day I got the pink Starblend last summer. This is an example of dry application. When you wet it, it turns opaque and you can cover the skin more like a paint.

Also, this did not just come off, she had to wash it off.

I played with that palette at one of our jams.

The Kryolan is like a slightly glittery eyeshadow. You can play with it but I think your money would be better spent on the Ben Nye Lumiere palette.

It will be pretty for blush, eye shadow and I think you get a black that can be used for jewlery shading.

Play with it and let us know though. You might come up with come really cute stuff!

I like the way the colors look really light on the face! Dif. effect than using the norm. If this palette does not give me the same effect as starblends would, I will just have to get some starblends on my next order.

I just ordered the Manly palatte that Ashley demo-d from ebay. It came with a pack of brushes. I figure it will do double-duty for me cause the hubs wants me to start doing makeup for his models. Can't wait till it gets here!

Pressed powders??? Empty Re: Pressed powders???

Post by sparklingfaces Sat Apr 03, 2010 1:36 pm

I think the biggest issue with the powders is the fall out (?)

When I rub the blender on the cake, there's tons of dust left on the cake that the wind blows everywhere. Then as I'm applying it to their face, there's tons off dust all over the cheek and eye. On Heather's videos she just blows this off their eyes.... unfortunately I think that's pretty gross and unsanitary. I can just imagine all the germs she's spreading by blowing in kids faces.
So after you finish the base, you set the blender down to make little piles of colorful dust everywhere....

Unfortunately I dont think the color payoff is good enough to keep this in my working kit.

I do like how well they last and being in TX, they look pretty good withstanding the heat and humidity. haven't tried them wet so no help on that end.

I've never used them outdoors but my Starblends have minimal excess powder and I tap the brush down into the cake before I apply.

I have used pressed powders alot. Ben Nye has some good choices. I use them as a base for whatever design that I am doing and then use paints over the top, it is much quicker to do and has great results. I find that the pastel colors and white dont show up so well and dont use those. If you check out Ben Nye, you will find that the pigment is MUCH richer and covers well. Good Luck with whatever you do choose.

Oh, I have never had a problem with "fall out".
