Question for DFX Users

I have lots of DFX now (thanks in part to project purchases and a couple of trades!) but have discovered that I do not like the feel of it on MY face. It is not comfortable, is drying and tight.

All of you who love it... have you tried wearing a full face design for 2-6 hours yet??

As I do not wish to subject children to something I, personally, find uncomfortable I will use it like I do Wolfe - as a highlight and accent colour. It does work well for theatre as it goes a lot further than the same amount of Snaz, and the colours are great.

I agree with you Shannon, it does get tight. I still use wolfe and dfx mainly for my older clientelle and leave the snaz for the little ones.

I use all dfx/wolfe for all full faces. It never really bothers me.... I actually find that I forget I even have it on.

I had Chris paint my arm with his Tag which is the same as dfx and it did dry out and feel tight, it flaked a little too. I could feel it on my skin when I ran my hand over my skin.
I use Paradise, you can't feel it at all. I always forget that I have it on and my hubby and I were just talking about how your skin feels BETTER after you have taken it off, your skin is smooth and clear.

yes I have...but I rarely use it for a base...mostly i use eulenspiegel for that and some lighter fx colours...hasn't been a problem yet

Yes often and can fell it a bit first. But after a short while I can't. And I very much like that I can scratch my cheek without smudging the design (since I always forget I wear it).

It was suggested at a jam to put some glycerine in the water you use to activate the Wolfe/DFX paint to help with this. I have tried it and it does seem to help. Though I don't really know the correct amount to put.

I tried it on my two kids with the Irish masks from the last newsletter. That paint stayed on for 12 hours until they took their baths. It did get a little tight, but no cracking and they didn't complain about it being uncomfortable. Maybe more glycerine?

Gyycerine will also help with paint when it gets a little old. So maybe something to think about keepin in our water????

Which makes me wonder if snaz has a higher glycerin content, because it melts faster and washes off better. So adding it to FX might be a very cool prospect. Might make it wash off better too, and then, because it isn't directly IN the paint, the FX won't get all gooey in the heat.

I've worn it/Wolfe and it makes my skin feel tight.

I can't comment on staining as the yellow/pink/orange butterfly washed off easily: Butterfly toward the bottom of this post

I could see that kids w/ sensituve skin might complain about it.

I use it for split cakes and for line work and flowers but thats about it.

But I usually will put snaz down for the base colors and then DFX for line and details.

Glycerin soap is how to clean face paint out of your sponges and brushes! It is an ingredient in pretty much all face paint so it will remove it really well. Most clear soaps are glycerin based.

I did an article on it for Face to Face Magazine actually, and I think I may have blogged about it too.

If you are adding water to your cakes from a bottle I suppose adding a few drops of glycerin wouldn't hurt - BUT I work with about 8 different brands in my palettes most of which do not need it. So I wouldn't bother.

You can get glycerine in the Wal-mart pharmacy or other pharmacies(probably). Def. do some testing as you don't want to ruin other paints. So far it has been ok for me, but I have only been using it with the DFX to do demos and such and not on my full kit.

Yep DFX etc are not as comfy as many but tbh I don't notice it after a while.

Glycerin can be purchased in any pharmacy and it is relatively cheap, probably $3.00 or less. I use glycerin and rose water on my face instead of soap. A trick I learned from my grandfather and his mother, as we all have sensitive skin, and the soap irritates.

Glycerin is also good when mixed in the water to avoid the colours crack on the body. Especially the white can have that problem on larger areas. And also some of the other colours in some climates, I have heard. I mix around 10% in, when I remember..
