For those of you who do black light parties... do you charge more per hour? If so how much do you charge? And what is the best black light paint?

So glad you brought this topic up! I'm thinking about adding this to my business model and maybe even doing a YouTube tutorial on it once I get it all figured out. Which hasn't happened yet!  Very Happy

I would also love to hear about one else's experience in doing this!

EU Directive on Safety on Cosmetics requires that the perfume ingredient Hydroxy-methylpentylcyclohexenecarboxaldehyde be declared at .005%

Note: The label for this palette doesn’t include the statement “manufactured with FDA & EU approved ingredients” as the labels in the other cakes do.  Wolfe Face Art and FX  says that their neon paints include one ingredient that haven’t been aproved by the FDA to be use in skin products, and that is why they can put the legend “manufactured with FDA & EU approved ingredients” in their neon products. They say that their neon paints can be used for hair and special effects.

About TAG Neon Face Paints: Independent European tests have shown all TAGs Neon face paints to be safe. All neon paints have a special pigment that allows them to shine under the black light. The FDA have approved some of the colors for use on the skin (Neon White, Neon Blue, and Neon Violet). The FDA labels some neon colors as “special effects products”: Neon Pink, Neon Orange, Neon Yellow, and Neon Green. However no one has reported a problem.

Diamond FX is tested in the Netherlands. Diamond FX Neon Blue, Neon White and Neon Violet contain ingredients that have been approved by the FDA to be used in cosmetics and hence have slightly less black light effect than other Neon colors. Other Diamond FX Neon products contain certain neon pigments that have not been tested by the FDA, and are therefore labeled for use on hair and special effects only, and not a cosmetic. Diamond FX Neon Colors should not be used around eyes and lips.

Diamond FX Neon Blue, Neon White and Neon Violet: Parafin wax-petrolatum – Glycerin – Calcium Carbonate- Stearyl Alcohol- Sodium Benzoate – Acacia Senegal Gum – dextrin – Aqua. Might contain: Ployester-3, Disodium Distyrylbiphenyl Disulphonate, AFDC, Blue 302, Blue Shade Aurora Pink, Blue 301C

from facepaint.com website -
The UV pigments have not been tested for acceptance by the FDA. Kryolan has their our own independent tests which prove its safety. With this being said, we believe the UV pigments are safe for body painting. "Dermatologically tested for safety, but does not comply to international cosmetic regulations". These pigments have been approved for hair and nails. We do not recommend using near the eyes or mucus membranes.

i have tried snazaroo neons in daylight only, they are sheer and rather faint. snazaroo acknowledges this in their product info. the colors include reds, oranges, yellows, and greens only.

Most of the brands that have UV colors are pretty sheer in daylight, but they look fantastic under blacklight. One of the keys to making good UV designs is strong, crisp black linework so that the edges of the UV color are set against the black and it makes the design "pop-out" more. I also find that detail tends to get lost - so large, bold designs, geometric patterns, dots, etc make up for not being able to recreate some of the more detailed designs that work in daylight.

thanks for the tip on outlining. can you mix uv/neons with regular colors to brighten them in normal light, or will that obscure them under uv?

It dulls the color under UV but I do it for regular light gigs to make matte colors pop.

UV colors won't look sheer under blacklight.
