Getting older by painting

Hi,

Just a question for you all.

A friend of mine asked me to paint her this weekend as an old woman.
I have been watching video's how to do that but still need some advice.
I am wondering if I have the right materials for it.
I have one brownish/colorskinlike cake make up from grimas. And two kinds of Brown paint. And grey/silver paints. Is that enough to be able to create an elderly woman?

I am not that good with highlighting or shading. Any tips?

Old age makeup is trickier than one may think. I suggest you look and www.eviltwinfx.com for some fantastic examples of old age looks with face paint.  I bow to my friends, master artists the late Brian Wolfe and the ever awesome Nick Wolfe.

hey creabella i have to do the same with carnaval too
10 people... but i bought kryolan old age stipple.
its a kind of latex that you put on the skin and dry into the skin and wrinkles wil come.... i will make photo/s saturday.

I had a try with my own face, just wanted to see already how it would turn out with what I know and have seen on video's.

What do you think of it? Does it resemble an old person a little, or a lot?
What would you do differently? Any advice on the wrinkles?

I went off a picture of Peta Rogers where she did her face...I based out my face lightly with Oriental Starblends, some pink SB on my nose and under my eyes, took a very fine brush (probably a #1) and followed my own wrinkles with a light brown wash (not straight paint) and made up a few here and there and then made a few moles. The scars are from rigid collodian (you can see it better in the witch photo) I used white SB on my eyebrows and hair. A kabuki brush was great for that as it applied a lot of color quickly and then I hairsprayed that so it didn't come off as much on my hat. Starblends are good for makeup type designs as you can keep rubbing them until they look "real" and bind with the oils on the face. Now that I'm looking at it, I might have done some shading with Lt. Cocoa too...there are some great tutorials on Youtube using makeup and you'll get some great ideas there too.

Denise and Crebella I love your regular face's too. Here's mine one from last year and the one I just did after I saw this thread. I could not resist it. My first old lady and it's my mug. I am old but not this dang old yet.

I did what you said Denise I just squinched up my face and followed the lines.

what gypsy say is good. And then you can blur the lines a little bit with your fingers or cotton swabs. If you not do so the lines maybe be to sharp, and it don't look natural. At teathre when someone needs to look older we work alot with lights and shadows. I think that you Creabella maybe could darker the skin around your eyes a bit befor you draw the lines, Many old people have deeper set eyes then younger.
Your skin looks smooth and uniform. Many older people I know have irregular and "spotty" skin. But your older face is really good I think. If it was my work I would not risk the good work by try to follow the hin'ts I wrote above. It's nice at it is

My tip to not paint in the natural facial lines (wrinkles) but rather next to them.

Old age makeup is SO fun! I had tons of fun 'granny trolling' people! "Granny's got a bad hip., when i was your age i walked to school in 20 feet of snow, up hill both ways in my mothers pajamas. Get off the grass!"

Hmm tips for this. Well bags under the eyes are very important. Generally you want to hit all these big ones:
Crows Feet
Mouth/Lip wrinkles
Eye Bags
Cheek Jowls
Laugh Lines (mainly coming from the nose to the mouth
Brow lines

Those are the big ones, work in light and shadow also by making the eyes more sunken in, and the cheeks more hallowed. Don't neglect your highlights. But if you really want it to "pop!" and look real then you have to add the little details. Broken capillaries, rosacea, sun spots etc. But don't sprinkle them in like glitter! Put them here and there not a everywhere.
