My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
My daughter is in the May 2013 issue of Chatelaine Magazine.
Beginning on page 52.
I am very proud.
Just bragging.
I realize that only our Canadian friends will be able to see this.

Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
What type of mag is chatelaine? Is there a website we poor Americans could view? And congrats! Bragging is well within your rights
Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
Chatelaine is a Canadian fashion magazine.

It was surreal to see the studio I painted in 25 years ago at OCA (Ontario College of Art) with my daughter now holding a paint brush on the very floor in front of the same drying racks I placed my student portraits.

Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
You SHOULD be bragging...it's in the mom job description! Those are awesome photos, she's a beautiful girl!
Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
When I was a younger woman, I'd always pick up a Chatelaine when I'd visit my Canadian girlfriend...and WOW! now I "know" a model in it.
She is Absolutely beautiful!!! (I know you needed me to tell you that 'cos you probably didn't notice ) Is she the same daughter you painted the corset on?
How long has she been modeling? And how did they happen to pick the same studio you painted in in College?? Just a coincidence?
Also wondered, what was the male model there for? ...just for your daughter's entertainment?
Congratulations!

Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
Dear Valerie A:
Thank you for the compliments!
Madison modelled in July 2010 for the October Chatelaine. She went to New York for Fashion Week. She went to Milan for Prada. (google images "Madison" and "Prada", and her face will come up).
It is a coincidence that they shot in the same room at OCAD (formerly OCA) when I went there.
I think they put the male model in as eye candy.
I painted the corset on Madison's sister, Darcy. Darcy was also my model for the body painting competition for Canada Haunted Attraction Conference in April 2013. Madison has short blond hair. Darcy has red hair. Holland has long blond hair. Holland has been asked to model for Ford Agency. We, as parents, said, "No". Because we are mean. Ford Modelling Agency closed up in Toronto. Holland is planning on moving to New York to model when she is old enough, she told us.
It is so weird. Tim is a photographer. We have kept the girls as far away from television and modelling as possible. We do not know any well-adjusted child actors. Tim's brain died when he was photographing models. I used to do make up. The last straw for him was the model who would only go in front of the camera while, "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" by Wang Chung was playing... FOR. FIVE. HOURS. I still wince when I hear that song, though not as much as I used to. I wanted to bring my children up to believe that the way you look is a gift from your parents. What counts most is your heart, and the service you do for others. I hate shopping. My favorite place to buy clothes is at Canadian Tire's "Mark's Work Wearhouse". It is odd, to me, that my child is modelling bathing suits she would drown in because of the heavy jewels, and they cost more than our car. Yes, I am proud of Madison.
Madison is in Tokyo right now. I believe she is going back to Milan after that to live.
(I laughed at the fact that the paint brush my child is holding has NO paint on it... and she is holding it very differently than I hold my brushes to do portraiture. That is okay, because I cannot imagine wearing any of those clothes to do oil painting in.) I took back the black and white rain coat I got from Joe Fresh because Madison was wearing one in that shoot. She did the pictures before I got the coat. I never saw the pictures until after I bought it. It feels creepy to me to be trying to wear clothing that my children wear.
Off to get my beauty sleep before a big gig tomorrow.

Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
Thanks for a 'slice of your life,' Lisa!
Teenagers can really be 'interesting,' that's for sure! Loved the part where she wanted to model and had to embrace all the things you'd tried to get her to do at home (getting up early, getting to places on time, healthy eating, working out)
Sounds like you have a very artistic family all the way around, with Tim being a photographer.
I don't know the song "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" but I think I'd hate my favorite song if it was playing... FOR. FIVE. HOURS!!!
I guess it will be extra hard discouraging Holland from modeling since Madison is doing it...Is she still a teenager?
I agree with you: traveling is a great equalizer and educator! Especially for young people, but Everyone can learn sooo much from it. We took our kids to as many places as we could when they were growing up (twins, now 27) and encouraged them to travel. Both of them still like to travel...the girl twin (girl/boy twins) has Asperger's Syndrome but she loves to travel! ...Many people with Asperger's prefer a routine with no 'surprises,' so it kind of surprised me that she likes traveling so much.
And: Yay! for 'mean parents!!' Too bad there aren't more of them.

Re: My daughter is in Chatelaine Magazine
She's gorgeous! And the pics are beautiful. I laughed at your "background" stories of the modeling. I'm in the fashion business, you're right to be a "mean Mom", it's a cut-throat, they have to be careful not to be taken advantage of!!!! They'll get over it lol
