Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
I'm thinking if you have a preference, you should probably list it, haha.
As much as I love sweet things (not that I need them), I'd much rather get paints and related things!

Me to actually... you can NEVER have too many paints, sponges, brushes, liquid bling...
I love books too but have most of them!!

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Well.. if we are making a list for Santa...
I really need American Face Painter #1 and the Christmas Issue!
But anything is good... these gift exchanges are the only presents I get!! In our house we always make a major purchase and call it "our present" this year it is hardwood bamboo floors, new interior doors and crown moulding!!

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
I don't have any issues of American Face Painter..... been on the fence about buying it. Does everyone who has it recommend it? Is it worth the money?
Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
I picked up a copy at a jam in May... then when I was at Living Canvas I was given a copy, and bought another since I was there! I figured if I got the other two I'd have the complete set (to-date!)
There are a couple (one or two) designs in each issue that I really like and would consider practical... but I actually haven't used any yet.
But then again, I look, then put it away and what I've seen will influence a future design - same as with all my books and mags!
As it is photos only (no instructions) you need a grasp of the techniques used but it is nice for inspiration purposes. The photos are good quality and the work is excellent in all cases.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Shannon, I feel the same way. They do have great step by step photos, only no how-to text with them.
I only used one of the Halloween designs and two spring designs and that's it so far. I noticed the advertisement creep into the Halloween one and gave up.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
I think the price of $6 is good for what you are getting - that's about the price of a venti Green Tea Frappacino... and it lasts longer!
I had a one sheet tri-fold full-colour glossy brochure printed and it worked out to about $2 a copy for me (granted I didn't get a huge number of them printed) so I can't see that $6 a copy for this magazine is in any way an income generator for Jodi.
As with all publications a revenue stream is needed which is probably why advertising is starting to be included...

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Thanks for the reminder Shannon! I have been meaning to send my ad form into Jodi for the Forum since it is part of my Marketing Plan for 2010.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
So...is there going to be a list of our preferences somewhere on the forum or can we just take a stab at getting our recipient something they'd really want?
Shannon...send veggies... just kidding.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
You'll get what I send ya, and you'll like it!
But I'm going to send good stuff, I hope, and try to make my 10 bucks stretch. I'm more excited about shopping for my exchange buddy here than I am for my own children (but they are 11 and 13, you all understand, I'm sure!).

I highly recommend it. $6 is a cheap investment to learn something new. I wish I were your secret santa, you would get a copy. Consider what it costs to go to a convention, somewhere between $500 and $1000 bucks....and you network and take tons of pictures and every minute of it is worth it. So if you spend this tiny amount....$6, and you learn only one thing...anything at all, you are way ahead and you helped support another artist. I love the magazine, and I usually order at least 2 or 3 copies, My copy to drool on, my copy to keep, and one to give away to one of my friends. This is a great magazine and very well done. The printing and binding is always great and the artists vary from issue to issue.
I recommend it, it is worth the money and more.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
It totally is worth it, but I was a little stunned with the $6 shipping from Jodi. I used a Silly Farm coupon and got it from them. 10% off the magazine and around $3.00 to ship. A much better deal. Especially when you consider that a magazine can ship under "media mail" rates from USPS for even less.
I know other retailers are moaning because of these statements, but believe me I know better than anyone(well maybe full well) about the actual cost of shipping since I offer free shipping. But a better deal, is a better deal.

I'm right there with ya! I have so many things in mind and it's exciting to buy for someone who will appreciate it and not feel they "deserve" it like the crumb snatchers I gave birth to. It really does feel better to give than to receive, but that seems to be lost on this world of ours.
Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Someone inquired about whether Forum Shop gift certificates will be available. I hadn't thought of this, but I can do it if you like. I can do these digitally with the to line with their name and the from line with your name in PhotoShop.
Or if you wanted to purchase from the shop, I can mail it directly to them if you like. There is no pressure here and I will take ABSOLUTELY no offense if you don't do this. Two people have asked and I told them yes on both questions and thought I would open this up for simplicity sake and the fact that my shipping is free(maybe I should suspend this till after the gift exchange) Just kidding!
You can let me know when I email you your name and address.

Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Thanks Metina, great idea. Maybe its because I'm so practical or have lots of chocolate but I would really appreciate the one I havent tried yet, Snaz sparkling white as a gift ; )
Re: Forum Gift Exchange!
Great, Metina! I will definitely take you up on that offer. We're going to be out of town so that will really be great!
I would love a copy of American Face Painter- never seen it! Or Snaz Sparkle Orange- for some reason I've always forgotten to order it but want to try it. Or brushes. Or chocolate. Hmmm... guess I'm good with pretty much anything you want to give me, exchange buddy!
