Party Set Up? Empty Party Set Up?

Post by Katurah Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:07 pm

I have my first birthday party coming up... I was a tad reluctant but the mother of a child in my Boys and Girls Club group insisted on it. So I agreed.

I was wondering... How do you set up at a party? What do you bring of your own (besides the paint of course), do you paint yourself? Basically any tips are appreciated!!

Party Set Up? Empty Re: Party Set Up?

Post by Stacia Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:23 pm

Congrats! Don't be reluctant, you're great!

I bring my tall directors chair & folding step stool, a small table that fits under the lid of my FatMax to support it, the FatMax (with all of my face paint & glitter tattoo supplies), my brush bag, and a word list menu board on foam core.

I don't paint myself because I'm a sweaty mess sometimes and I have a habit of wiping my brow and sweeping my hair out of my face and messing up my paint.

You're gonna do great!

Bring more than you need. I went to a little kid's bday party and just brought my paint.... and painted 2 little boys and the mom in an hour and a half. I should have brought some glitter tattoos for some of the older kids and aunts and uncles that came too. Of course I thought I wasn't going to need the GT's so I left em at home.....

The tip I would give you is treat the birthday kid like royalty. Parents are watching how you handle everything of course, but their kid needs to be better than every other kid. Bring a stick on jewel or something if it is a girl- just so as amazing as you make everyone- something makes them extra special. That is the big secret!
Good Luck- You'll love it!

I have a kit like Linda's, it is a Plano Rolling tool box, and I usually have all my gear with me. My menu changes, depending on what the client wants, and I have several to choose from, with fast desings, to more elaborate and everything in between. If I need too, I can put up a word list when the client has fudged the numbers, and I find that I have 25 kids instead of 10. I carry a "happy Birthday" glitter tattoo stencil with me, and always have my freehand glitter tattoo glue., glitter gel, and a brown kryolan skin liner so I can do a henna type desing on the girls who are too cool for face painting, but, I don't have to if I don't want to. I like not having to unpack and repack, all I have to do is fill my water jug, wash my sponges, put a clean black towel in my kit, and I am off. I take the same kit with me to festivals, but we have a fat max that holds all the glitter tattoo stencils and the airbrush. We just roll in, roll out. The balloons are in another plano tool box. It is nice to have everything contained and in the same place, no matter what kind of event we do.

I also carry wristbands from a party store, or Walmart. If the host tells me there are 35 children, (and I suspect there may be more children, or pushy adults who want to be painted before all the children) I hand her 35 wristbands. I also use them if I am at a private party at a public venue like a park, or indoor playground. That way, I can tell the invited guests from the tiny party crashers.

I'm still figuring things out, but here's a picture of a beach theme kid's party I did. I just started getting busy and I'm still learning. I've been lucky in that I haven't had to bring my own table and chair, most events have been at party venues.
