Help me brain a new photo display Empty Help me brain a new photo display

Post by sweethavenarts Mon Jul 02, 2012 11:56 am

I have a photo display for gigs that I really like. It's this http://picturepocketsusa.com/?page_id=164 in a PVC stand. I like that I can change the photos around easily, and I like that I can just print out a photo on my computer and slap it in.
As I'm slapping in new photos today for a 4th gig, I realize that the middle is tearing apart. No real big deal, a little E6000 and some packing tape and it will be better. But now that it's no longer perfect, I am already thinking of the Next Big Thing.
I would like to make a new display.
REQUIREMENTS:
I want to keep my PVC stand. I LOVE it. It works really well for me.
I want to start using the paper faces. While I like using pictures, I also like how nice the paper ones look, and I like taking the time on something that's not squiggly or asking ARE YOU DONE YET MOM?
I want it to be changeable. I want to be able to switch out faces that aren't being done and be able to customize for busy gigs vs slow parties.

So what I've thought of so far is some sort of new holder (ha ha, yup, trying to figure that out) where I can slip the little painted faces into. Or on to.
I have a lot of crafty supplies at my fingertips and a small budget. I thought about some sort of vinyl banner with velcro to velcro the faces too. Durable? I really <3 this display http://www.facepaintforum.com/t8914-display-board-pictures#129458 and wondered if I could find the photo sheets with the pockets facing the long way to slip a painted paper face into. http://www.facepaintforum.com/t6423-display-suggestions#94647 this one is a neat idea too. maybe that's what I want.
And the more I think about it the more my brain is melting and I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. Help?

I went with Dawnie's idea and got a blank white vinyl banner. I laminate my photos and attachy velcro to them and to the banner. Easy peasy to swap them out to whatever I'm doing at the moment and I have a PVC frame. (granted I'm making hubs make it shorter but that's another story....he really didn't want to listen to me or let me play with his tools....so) What I really like is that it's waterproof. Love that.
I also use a trifold display for some of my gigs and they also use the velcro and laminated pics.

What do you use for the velcro base? Individual dots of velcro? Whole lines?

I buy the industrial lines of velcro and cut square with heavy duty sewing scissors. I just clean them when I am done with goo-gone. Smile
Here is the link to where I saw Dawnie's set up

See? SEE? It's not going to be so hard. Blank banner (can find some for really great prices!), vinyl lettering (got it), industrial velcro (mu ha ha!), painted faces (get on it, me!), laminator (got one), and BOOM! NEW SIGNAGE!!
THANK YOU, that was a huge help.
Dear self, don't even think you can do this before wednesdays gig. Just. DON'T.

Yes Barb, Your display is one that is really inspiring me. The only change I would make would be to have the photos with the 4 inches across to hold face cut outs. I also hadn't thought of looking at a local sign shop.

I think you should be able to get photo sleeves in any size up to 8x10
but if you laminate them you won't need photo sleeves

I just wish I can find a PVC in Germany, can you believe they don't sell PVC here? I told my hubby who is visiting the states to bring some in his luggage.
