Hey guys. I'd love to get your opinion on this one.

A lady hired me to face paint at an Earth Day festival last Saturday. I made the mistake of offering to do PPF instead of my hourly rate.

So on Saturday, they put me a flight of stairs and long hallway away from the action. I was there for 4 hours and painted a grand total of 6 kids. Made $30 bucks. I also turned down two birthday parties for this festival.

By the end of it, I could tell the organizer was feeling really bad for me, and she said she'd email me to work out some kind of compensation for my time.

She emailed me and said:
Hi Janna,

Some of us Clean North folks are wondering if you ended up losing money do to the poor demand for face painting at the Earth Day musical event (21 April) and if so how much? We would like to consider a special payment to cover any losses that you incurred.

Please advise. Thank you.

The only problem I'm having is that I feel guilty taking any money from her. She didn't know it would be such a poor turn-out, and the whole thing was a fundraiser for her group.

So I'm not sure if I should say "nah, it's okay don't worry about it" or "yes, I missed two parties where I would have made $120".

Is it rude of me to ask for $120? I know she offered but... I don't know! I feel bad! Embarassed

My two cents: it was your decision to offer ppf. That's the gamble we all take with ppf. I personally would not accept the money because of that reason and because it also was a fundraiser. It was nice of her to offer though. I would consider it a lesson learned....

I wouldn't take the money if you offered ppf. I would tell her it would of been 120, so consider it a donation toward the fundraiser. I have never had good luck at ppf like this.

Yeah, you guys are right. I know I didn't feel comfortable accepting money for a reason. I definitely learned my lesson!

If you are doing PPF ... remember to DEMAND a good location. No point in bothering if you are being put in a closet.
