Hello all.
I have a wedding gig coming up, and while there will be a table set up for me, once the line dies down - if it does Wink - I would like to walk around with a Cigar Girl setup, think tray hanging off of my neck. I think it would add fun throughout the hall and two, I hope it will encourage older family members who might not want/be able to stand in line to be painted.

I have never done this and wanted to put it out there for any advice / ideas / experiences anyone may have about PAINTING on the GO.

Thanks!

I have a Snazaroo walkaround pallet that I started with as my whole set up... I haven't actually tried walking around with it, but it seems like it would be ok. My main concern would be your water... if someone bumps you while you're carrying it, that's a big mess.

Thanks for the tip. I looked up the pallett and see what you mean about the water. My cakes wouldn't fit either. But my biggest concern, which is why i like the Cigar Box / Tray idea, is that I would have to hold it.

re: water
I use dedicated brushes, and a spray bottle - I find I don't need to wash my brushes out so often. I guess i would withdraw every so often to clean up the mess on the tray, and wash the brushes.. get rid of used sponges etc.

So, how does the face painting thing work at a wedding? I'm going to a wedding this weekend and my mother-in-law wants me to bring my paints. I just don't know if it will work out, kwim? Should I or shouldn't I?

Take 'em... keep the kids occupied. (is she planning to pay you?)

As to the "cigarette girl tray" - having that hanging on your neck could be painful. I actually had to stop wearing my apron at work around my neck, and just fold it over to tie around my waist instead. The pressure of the strap around my neck was causing severe back spasms - so bad I would drop to the ground. Figured out it was because I had the apron around my neck 8-hours a day... once I stopped wearing it that way the spasms stopped.

I saw an artist who used a parambulator (baby carraige) as their mobile work station - really cute.

There are several methods... utility belts in combination with an artist's palette with pots velcro'd or glued to it or maybe even just carrying a large split cake and a brush to do quick designs...

hm. the idea of using velcro for the palettes is great!
and think I would be hanging the tray like a side bag (not like traditional cigar girl) since I need to be able to get in close. of course if folks are seated (which si likely), I may just have the tray on my lap. So I carry the tray and a small folding stool, and 'setup' wherever there are takers.

Honestly my biggest concern is that folk will be dancing (as the bride told me "I hope so!") and sweating!! and wearing their finest... But I guess that part is ourt of my hands.. I'll try to avoid the forehead area...

And lady Jayde,
if you are interested in spending a couple of hours face painting then bring them - certainly it will be a welcome distraction for the kids.. and possibly for some adults. But then again you may not get to enjoy the party!

i was hired by the bride who wants a very colorful atmosphere and "can't wait to be painted" herself. Probably the MOST terrifying, what if her face paint smears and wrecks the beautiful bride! Getting nervous thinking about it.

Paint the bride with white... like a white henna pattern with lots of glitter.

It's my baby cousin-in-law's wedding. She helped me 15 years ago when I was putting my wedding together (the poor thing spent at least 2 hours under the table retrieving beads we kept dropping and had to wear my too big head piece unteen times to help me get it beaded. I figure that if she could be my mannequin and lackey when she was 8, I can do some painting for her.

I'm not the partying sort, much better off sitting on my duff. My husband doesn't dance and that sticks in my craw big time at parties. I figure if I'm busy, I won't have time to be peeved about the fact that he's about as entertaining as a toe wart. I have more fun talking to the kids that the adults anyway...I'm just plain weird.

I like the idea of white painting for the bride. I'll bring my kit with me and I'll ask Erica herself as my mother-in-law is notorious for putting her nose where it doesn't belong and I don't want to be in the middle of a battle of the sisters because 'mom' decides what's best for her sister's daughter's big day.

Shannon - nice idea! the husband is mexican and I my instruction are to be colorful with a mexican flair. I have been doing some research and mexican weddign dresses (traditional) are wonderful with lace used in interesting ways.. If I could figure how to attach an image I would, but alas it caused me to loose my message last time...

but yes, a lace inspired design with lots of sparkles could do quite well. I just purchased some stick on pearls and lovely diamonds as well.

I saw a very cool blinged out tray by some guy who was in People Magazine and did lots of Hollywood parties...... rats!!! I cannot find it now! I was going to attach a link so you could see it - very sparkly, clean and worth seeing! Does anyone have the link??

I have the cream Snaz walk around/strolling pallette which is all Lisa Smiley paints out of!!! but I def would want it to be a little "jazzed" up if I was using it very often - cuz that's just me!) Smiley Orca is the whole family which is so cool!!!

Let us know what you come up with! I like to walk so that would be a plus!

I would think a small pallet would be great if you have one. I have the DFX essential 12 and metallix in the teeny pallets with cases. You would only need a cup (carry a large wine glass maybe?) and a towel, brushes and the pallets would fit in an apron around your waist. I would imagine most adults would not get full animal faces (fuddy duddies they are) and jazzy eye art looks great with fancy dresses, so you could probably do most work with your brushes anyway. I would love to do a wedding! It sounds like fun!
