Hello artists
I'm a new member on the forum, and it has been really neat to see all the wonderful work that everyone does. I have always painted with acrylic paints, watercolors. Then i got introduced to face painting and have enjoyed painting at family kids parties, which everyone enjoys having me over, and look forward to seeing the smiling faces on the children and practice. I live in Downey CA, and just wondering if anyone would be close to ther area. Thanks everyone for the tips .

Re: Hello artists
I get nervous, too, before a big event.
I have this fear I will forget how to paint.
I lay off the coffee.
I try to paint a few practice teardrops and line work on a piece of craft foam before I start painting.
My first face is never my best face.
I wish I could do my second face first.
Breathe!
Once I am painting, I am just fine.
I think I get nervous because I am always striving to improve.
Happy Painting!

Re: Hello artists
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I began face painting on my oldest daughter in December of 1996. I accidentally gave Pink Eye to all her friends from my New Mother's group. I asked my photographer husband's makeup artist what he used when he volunteered at SickKids Hospital. He helped me pick out a palette of Kryolan Aquacolors, brushes and glitter. I began volunteering as a Face Painter at SickKids Hospital October 31, 1998.
It is easy to paint some fantastic, amazing faces when you can take 10 minutes to half an hour a face.
I began striving to face paint for a living four years ago. (Previously, I was doing portraiture and still life oils and making a living...and every time I began a new commission, my oldest daughter seemed to come apart at the seams. I realized I had to put my oil painting aside, until all the girls are in University)
The first year, I had two face painting jobs. The second year, my work doubled ... I got four jobs. The third year, I made it my job to get jobs. I grocery shopped with my face painted. I handed out business cards. I took out family UV bowling with our faces painted in UV paint. I feel like all that footwork paid off and I am getting busier and busier. I am still keeping my day job, I have just gone down to part time hours.
I practice all the time, still. I also get nervous before any big gig.
Happy Painting!

Re: Hello artists
Wow, that is a long time. Let's see I've started doing art work since 1994. Started out with taking some tole painting classes, wish I enjoyed. So, I always had things to make, for gifts or orders taken from friends. I'm a fulltime medical assistant for a Urologist, have been for the last 14 yrs, prior to this job, I worked for a Pediatric office for 12 yrs. Always found time to paint after work. About 7yrs. ago stared taking waters color classes, which found to be fun, too. So, one day a few of my friends and I, were at a street fair. They had a lady doing face painting. One of my friends, turns to me, you can do that.... Off I went to michaels and bought some face paint, I tried it at home with some family members, and they liked it. Went online to find out that there are many links on face painting. I, also went to a face painting jam, which I enjoyed very much. It would be nice, to meet some face painters, in my area, to meet up with. I enjoy my art work, the little that I do. And a smile is enough for me.
