Pregnant Belly Art
I was wondering if anyone here has ever painted on a pregnant belly. Being pregnant myself right now this has become very interesting to me. I am curious what you charge for something like that and how long it takes (to me it looks like it would take forever). And how does one go about choosing a theme to paint on the belly? Does the mom-to-be decide all on her own or do you have samples to show her? I have tried to find this info on the internet but so far have had no luck.

Re: Pregnant Belly Art
It usually takes around 2 hours... the design is often the choice of the mom, but some are happy to let the artist have free choice. It's nice to show them a lot of ideas to see what can be done.
Here are some of mine http://www.shannonfennell.com/bellypainting.html
There is a page on the Snazaroo contest pages of belly painting if you want to get some ideas http://www.snazaroo.us/08/8prenatal.htm

Re: Pregnant Belly Art
I have painted lots of new moms. I try to keep the time to 1.5 hours - 2 hour tops, which includes pictures. I ask the mom if she has a favorite childhood book or if they have a theme to the childs room.
Cost is depended upon if I do this during my peek time Saturday or on my off time - Sunday afternoon and weekdays.

Re: Pregnant Belly Art
I'm interested in what you all charge for belly painting, too! I just got an email from a local photographer who's seen my work and wants to work together...this could be good!

Takes from one hour and up. Often I do this for bachelor parties, so she does not know it before. Sometimes I can do what ever I want, but often they have a theme.
The prize is the same as if I was doing facepainting.

My first Prenatal Belly Challenge on short notice!
The Mom of twins to be delivered tomorrow called this morning wanting pink, yellow & green colors depicting two peas in a pod, a Giving Tree and a turtle.
She loved watching me paint the sweet pea blossoms to compliment the pod and sunrise background, depicting birth and new her new life as a mom tomorrow. The Giving Tree matches the one in the baby's room that's stenciled on the wall. The turtle is below the pod, next to the tree.
I incorporated her belly button in the tree's knothole & had to add the Bluebird of Happiness singing its song over two eggs in the nest because Mom was so patient I kept asking if she was comfortable, being that huge!
Im glad this Forum has an edit button because I forgot to add the most important thing. It was the fabulous info and inspiration I received from Pashur's Fairfax, VA class that gave me the encouragement to paint this belly less than two weeks later! Pashur is a Fantastic Instructor and the next time he class comes to your area, by all means, take it! That class made such a difference in all areas of my painting, my regulars are simply amazed! Special thanks, Pashur! www.canvasalive.com
Happy Painting,
Susan

Re: Pregnant Belly Art
Thankyou, I'm glad I outlined the area of her belly that showed when she had her arms around it, out of self defence. It took soo long just to get the sunset coverage on her ; D
After Pashur's class, I'm thinking more about body painting and your necklace has inspired a design I'm workin' on ; )
Special Thanks,
Susan
