Day of the Dead Sugar skull photo shoot
Well it seems odd to post 3 days in row BUT this is my last until either after the weekend or after the 17th!! Did the photoshoot yesterday and did 3 different models in two different traditional styles in 'Day of the Dead', 'Día de los Muertos' theme. Did not have to do the backs as it was all front shots and any back that may show will be edited by the photographer. I can NOT WAIT to see the finished product!!! Being a perfectionist I probably would have wanted to do the backs anyways, but I'm running real low on black and my order does not come in till the end of the month!!
So here it is! I wish I had planned them out better but I'm not unhappy with the results or the contacts that I have made! I think I'm getting the hang of the body painting thing, but still have tons to learn and a thing or two to pick up on time management when doing the very large pieces. So here is the quick shots from my camera...when they come in, I'll probably post the polished pics right to the facebook site. Be gentle! LOL

AMAZING!!!!! Your sugar skulls are so beautiful KIm, Congratulations on a successful painting and photo shoot!
Re: Day of the Dead Sugar skull photo shoot
Looks great Mehndi! Did you get your models from model mayhem again?
Re: Day of the Dead Sugar skull photo shoot
Actually the one in blue is on model mayhem and I've done a shoot with her before...she is the snake girl! The other two the photographer had come in and I do believe that they are from Model Meyham. WHICH I just became a member of to see if I can snag some models here and there. Seems like it is a great way to get interested bodies to sit for paint!!!!
And thanks!! I would have prefered to 'finish' the roses, but the photographer begged me to leave them as is as he liked it that way. BUT it still turned out ok and I like the finished product so I can't cry too hard!

Re: Day of the Dead Sugar skull photo shoot
Kim You said you wished you had "planned" better.
Looking at it all now, what would you change? (All looks good to me!)
Also, what did you base the white in?

Re: Day of the Dead Sugar skull photo shoot
@everyone - THANK you so much!
@Lilly - I'm still very new and am learning as I go. I've never actually seen anyone paint 'live' before and I'm reaching conclusions both on my own and learning so much from the enormous talent here. When doing full bodies it is best to plan ahead at least a little bit WHAT you are going to do. I find that on the fly, I am still learning to see the big picture and not just in smaller canvases that will join together. It does look kinda cool and stylized with the spine and neck bones, but they should not be quite so 'off' in size. I'm lucky it turned out! If I had planned ahead, I would have placed in more roses and it all would have gone faster if I would have not had to think and paint at the same time. I would have also known how much color I would have needed. I'm now dangerously low on black. I could have planned accordingly. I've never thought much about costuming and hair and shoes until now either! The art stands alone, but impact is even larger when you take into consideration things like lighting, background, and 'framing' of the subject and fitting into the theme of the piece. BUT this is the joy and adventure of the learning process!!!!!
The white is a combination of DFX white and Snazaroo. The black is DFX. Color is snaz, a touch of DFX metallix, Paradise pallette and glittermark.
DFX is from here at FPF
Snaz I had

Face Painting Day of the Dead - Dia de los Muertos
Well, it is a great job
I never seem to be able to get colors to go well combined with Snaz. Probably just me.
A Paradise dealer tried to get me to use Paradise white for my solid white backgrounds, but I obviously need WAY more practice!
For me, the solid white designs work best with Diamond FX, then I dust with white Starblends.
Somebody needs to show me how to use Snaz. I get an F on using it!
