tricks for painting white over color??????
Does anyone have any tricks for painting white over color? For example, painting teeth on spongebob, or eyes on snakes. You can't always leave a space for those things, especially if they're small. The white ALWAYS pulls in the color.
Or are there any brands of white that work well over color?

as long as the other colors are completely dry you shouldn't have a problem

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
well, for me, it seems that even if it's dry (especially dark colors) when I use the white, the brush is wet with paint and it re-wets the paint underneath and pulls in color.
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Yeah I get that too, although less so with DFX, it definitely sits on top of over colours better than Snaz... However, even DFX white over top of certain colours, will sort of "fade" after a few seconds so it is not a bright white. It bugs me, sometimes I reapply the white and it looks good then.
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Yeah, what they said... dry base, DFX/Wolfe/TAG white. And sometimes it takes a second coat.
Also search for Metina's dippy pot... the post/recipe is around here somewhere...

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Sometimes I take a baby wipe over my finger or a wet Qtip and take off some color before I paint on the white (like with Spongebob teeth)
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
always happens to me to, I just second or triple coat it.
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Well that makes me feel better, I've been having to double/triple coat too. Just wanted to see if there was a trick I didn't know about!!
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
The dippy pot method really helps with this. I still do get some bleed through if I'm painting fast & don't have time for the base to dry. It's worse when I'm doing flatbrush work, since I need more water to activate the paint. But my base is pretty dry when I sponge(my trick, spray the sponge, not the paints).
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
You have to let the paint dry and your brush with the white paint can't be that wet. now for those brands of paint that you need more water to activate the paint, well then i guess you will have to go over it again and again. DFX doesn't need alot of water therefore can go over other dry colors with very little to no bleed. I rarely have to go over my white again.
On a side note I just saw the post about the dippy pot....lolol just cracks me up..........even though I don'tcurrently have an issue with my white I am gonna try it and see.

WOW! I love your work ChangingFaceDesigns. Would it be okay with you if I tried that butterfly? I'm quite sure I won't even come close to as good as that but it sure is a pretty design! If that's not okay I will respect your say so.

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Wolfe paint will bleed through metallics. And I do love the rainbow pics they are great...are all of the colors DFX?
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
I also get good results by using Details white. It covers even better than DFX white. But, that tiny little bottle is not going to be any good on larage areas. Still, works for a bunch of things

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
I used to use those Detailz a lot when I was starting out, but they dried out so quickly it just didn't seem worth the cost. the only one I still use is the gold which I use for unicorn horns in a pinch or if time is of the essence (but really, when isn't it? lol).

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Punky, your Detailz dried out? I've had 3 bottles for two years now and they aren't dried out at all, I just ended up not being so fond of those colors. I have others in colors I like and haven't had that issue either. Did your bottles or tops crack to cause that?
I agree with Lilly, the white covers beautifully but isn't for large anything.

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
I was having the same problem last night with my DFX white and was wondering if it could have anything to do with the quality of the brush I was using?

Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
I don't know about the brush thing...I have some pretty expensive art brushes. I have a couple that I have paid $20 and $25 for each so...if there is a brush that holds paint better. I want it. I have all different types of brushes some of the cheapest seem just as good as my really expensive ones. I think it has something to do with the pigments. But, I am guessing here on that one.
Re: tricks for painting white over color??????
Thanks for sharing Terina:) It's good to know I don't have to reinvest in something I already have.
