Back in the 60's ? It was probably some horrid acrylic or oil paint not designed for skin. Poor girl.

On the mythbusters episode where they busted this (no, covering your whole body in paint WON'T kill you) the discussed what was used.

Yes, she died in the movie and people believed that she actually DID die until she resurfaced in another movie a few years later. Back then they believed that we could suffocate if we didn't have a patch of skin uncovered for our skin to breathe....

...However, Buddy Ebsen was cast as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz but had such a horrible allergic reaction to the silver paint that he had to bow out of the film and the role went to Ray Bolger instead.

Re: Goldfinger - who painted Shirley?
My sister used to beg to watch Wizard of Oz when she went to sleep over at our aunt's as a child. She would get to the end "no place like home" and cry to have our Mom come get her lol. She might be a rival in the title of "biggest oz fan" lol.

Loving the brush he's using in the pic. Is that a house painting brush? I guess it would work, but it would sure soak up the paint!
Re: Goldfinger - who painted Shirley?
In those day often studios simply assigned the movies to the studio's makeup department. Not sure if that was the case here but there were 2 makeup artists on Goldfinger, Basil Newall and Paul Radiberg (?spellings?).
And even today some of us use big regular brushes for certain wash techniques in body painting.
I was a common belief that covering a whole body would not allow the skin to breath. A patch on her stomach was left unpainted and a medial staff was on the set.

I guess it couldn't soak up much more paint than a kabuki. I love the effect, but they're expensive to use.
