Unexpected surprise!!!

OK I got some really exciting news today! Here is a bit of a back story.

Every year we have a 3-day summer festival involving street performance. Performers from all over Canada come to participate, and it's a lot of fun. Big crowds!

There's a lady who has been doing face painting there for 8 years, so I knew that wouldn't be an option. So I got in touch with the organizer (who happens to be a friend) and asked him about doing glitter tattoos. He said he'd double check with the face painter (not wanting to step on any toes) and get back to me about it.

He emailed me back and said YES! So I was quite excited, went and bought 500 stencils right away. Then yesterday evening I got an email from him that said: "Could you please give me a call tomorrow Janna."

My mind automatically went to bad news. I was positive that the face painter had changed her mind and said she didn't want me doing tattoos. I was stressing out about all the stencils I ordered, how excited I was, and how CRAZY this other face painter was for being threatened by glitter tattoos! I didn't sleep well.

I woke up, felt anxious all morning at work, then finally called him at lunch.

And guess what.

Now I'm doing glitter tattoos and face painting!

He said the original face painter changed her mind/something else came up, then suggested that her co-worker could do it instead. He said I was already set up to be a vendor, so he'd get in touch with me first to see if I'd like to do the face painting. Apparently they were not pleased.

But honestly, I am totally thrilled. I have been waiting for my big chance to do face painting at a festival this summer and it's finally happening! I want to show people in this town what GOOD face painting is all about.

I am going to blow them away!

Congrats, congrats, soooooo exciting! I don't know how good was the other painter, but I'm sure people will be amazed with your work!

that's fantastic! yay!! on a side note, I'm jumping into the world of glitter tattoos now too (I had been leaving it to Glitterfly because of the large initial investment) because we'll be painting at the local pride festival and with all the heat we've been having, it may end up being bigger than our painting.

I've found that glitter tattoos have been awesome helping me get my foot in the door at the festivals. I did glitter tattoos at a Canada Day festival, and they were a huge hit. And it's sooo easy to train people to do them too!

Not to sound conceited, but the other face painters in this city aren't very good. You can definitely tell they just do it for the money, and don't care at all about the creative and beautiful side of it. I've never seen another face painter in town ever do a tear-drop!

I am really really excited to show people that face painting can look AMAZING!

Awesome Janna! You will Rock it! What is the name of you festival? We do one here in Albert called Centrefest - Its only a week away and I can't wait. We did it last year , I was painting, my husband did the glitter tattoos and we made alot of money and had lots of fun. This year we are selling inflateables too so hopefully it will be really busy.

So cool Janna! If you can have someone doing tattoos for you while you paint, you will really do well! Send us pictures!

Same thing happened to me at a festival in June. I was told there was a painter and I couldn't do that, soooo, I signed up for glitter tattoos only. Even had a banner made up specifically for that, because I couldn't display my face painting banner. Two days before the festival, I was asked if I would paint too, because they lost their painter at the last minute. WOULD I?!??!

It was a wonderful two days, and I did lots of both. And booked some parties too. And, the same thing happened with yet another festival this spring. So, you never know. The key is to get your foot in the door!

Have a great great time!! Make friends with those festival organizers, and be sure to paint their kids for free as a goodwill gesture too!
