Gay Pride Festival

I have a gig coming up that is different than any I have done so far. Does anyone have any experience with Gay Pride Festivals or done a similar type gig? I would love opinions or suggestions, on designs to use, things to paint, things not to paint, any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Shannon is right as usual. We have a Gay Pride festival here in Kansas City. Rainbows and lots of glitter and jewels would be appropriate. Google "gay pride festival image" for some idea of what you are in for. This will get you started...

I would be prepared for requests to paint various body parts. You might want to come up with some concrete idea of what parts you will and won't do before you go.

I just did one, and it was a blast. Boobs. If you will paint boobs, you will make a ton of money. Put a rainbow butterfly HUGE on your board. Henna, if you do it, is HUGE. Henna on boobs, huge (and on huge boobs too ) Put some drawings up of your breast designs, and you will be busy all day long. Next year, I am making a board.

NoH8 is also big,both on bodies and faces, and Kanji symbols, playboy bunny glitter tats.

This was a great festival for me! I hope it is for you too!

Yes, Rainbows on boobs and rainbow butterflies. I painted a ton of them. A board with a Rainbow butterfly on boobs would be very popular. Tribal on top of rainbows is big...and, once again, on boobs.

I have an album on my facebook from the PRIDE I painted at a few weekends ago.
It was tooooo hot at ours, I believe it got up to 103 or something that day. It was crazy hot and humid. So not too much painting at ours, but the glitter tattoos did really well. Everything in rainbow.

Not all of these suggestions may fit with your sensibilities- But I have seen them done.

The NO H8 logo. Princess Tiaras. Bling masks. Pansies. Aids ribbon. Leather pride flag (Blue and Black stripes with heart in corner). Various bear designs. (Big hairy gay men are referred to as "bears") Wolf clan design from Twilight (Thin Muscular gay men are referred to as wolves or cubs)

If you like doing 3 D jewelry, and are comfortable with shirtless men, painted on nipple rings and shields would probably do well. Painted on freedom ring necklaces. Also, if you are OK with edgier design- an uper torso harness would go over well. Leather collar. DEPENDING on the crowd of course.

Male and female symbols, with tons of glitter. And yes, rainbows!

Yep, boobs. Lots and lots of boobs. Got to the point were there were just topless women in my line. There was another painter at the same festival, and I saw one woman with a dog on each breast. Nipples make great centers for one stroke flowers, with rainbow cakes, of course.

I almost fell out of my seat!! Too funny!!

It was kind of unexpected, but I went with it. I am going to make a boob board for next year. This will kill you...my husband says that our kids ARE NOT being modles for that board!

Thank you all so much!!! I am not sure I was expecting BOOBS but they may be a great canvas LOL. I am a bit nervous but at the same time excited to try something new!!! Will let you know how it goes!! I have 3 weeks to prepare so I shouldbe fine!!!

Don't forget it is summer and you are likely to be painting sweaty people. Take plenty of wipes for them to clean themselves and you might want to invest in some Starblends for bases.

The one I did last summer was the most fun I've had! Yes, rainbows and have an open creative mind!

Pink and purple upside down triangles (I have one design where I do it like the Pink Floyd prism logo)
Rainbow ribbons.
NoH8 was popular at our Dyke Fest.
Interlocking male or interlocking female symbols.
I have to also say, the I did a lot of pink skulls on rainbow flags...on butt cheeks. At least they owned up to being booty pirates.
